Not sure how much a photographer should cost next to the venue? Start with your total, and WedBuild can split it across every part of the wedding for you. You can change any amount afterwards.

Steps

  1. Open Budget from the sidebar and go to the Budget tab. Choose Set Budget in the toolbar (Budget on a phone). Haven't set one yet? Set your budget on the Dashboard tab opens the same panel.

  2. Type your Total wedding budget (1), in whole dollars. Add your Estimated number of guests (2) if you like, and you'll see an estimated cost per guest.

  3. To have your budget split across your categories for you, choose Smart Allocation (3). To keep the total and share it out yourself, choose Save Budget (4).

  4. If your categories already have amounts, Smart Allocation first shows what each category would get. Choose Apply Smart Allocation (1) to use it, or Cancel to keep what you have.

  5. Changing your total after you've shared it out? When you choose Save Budget, the panel first asks, for example, "Change your budget to $50,000?" It says how much you've already split across your categories, and asks "What should happen to it?" Choose Scale my categories (1) and every category and line item changes by the same share, so your split stays the same. Or choose Keep my categories (2), and your amounts stay as they are: the note under it says how much that leaves to allocate, or how far over your budget your categories would come. Go back takes you back to your total.

Good to know

  • The split is a starting point. Venue & Catering gets the biggest share (34%), then Photography & Videography (16%) and Attire & Beauty (12%). Each category's share is spread across its line items too.
  • Smart Allocation replaces amounts you've already set, and categories you added yourself get nothing, so give them their amounts again afterwards.
  • Smart Allocation saves your guest count too, along with your new total, so you can change both and choose it straight away.
  • Haven't set or changed any amounts yet? Then your categories just follow your new total, and nothing is asked.
  • Prefer to split it yourself? Custom Allocation, beside Smart Allocation, lets you share out your budget category by category or line by line, in percent or dollars.
  • Change it any time. Open Set Budget again, or the gear at the top of Budget, where Change sits beside your total.
  • Budget comes with Standard and Pro, and you can use it during the free Pro trial.
