Link your vendors to your budget
On the Vendors Dashboard, Settings links each category to a budget line. Once you book a vendor, Add to budget as an invoice puts their quote in your Budget.

Works on your phone
Your vendors and your budget work best together. Link each vendor category to the line it comes out of in your budget, and you can see every quote against what you planned to spend. Once you book someone, their quote can go straight into your budget as an invoice, ready for payments.
Steps
-
Open Vendors from the sidebar and stay on the Dashboard tab. Choose Settings at the top right (on a phone, the cog in the bar at the top). Budget Category Links opens.
-
Each vendor category has a budget line picked for it. WedBuild guesses one from the kind of vendor and says Auto-detected from vendor type. If it isn't right, choose a better one from the list (1), then Save Changes.
-
Back on the Dashboard, each category's card shows its Budget Allocated beside your Quote Range. On the bar under the quotes, the thin dark line is your budget.
-
When you book a vendor (set them to Selected, with a Quote Amount), their card moves under Booked. Choose Add to budget as an invoice (1).
-
In Add to Budget, check the Budget subcategory (1) and the Invoice amount (2), which starts as their quote. Leave Also set the Estimate ticked (3) to put the same amount in that line's Estimate column. Then choose Create Budget Invoice (4).
-
The card now says Added to budget, with how much you've paid so far. View in Budget opens the invoice on the Budget page, where you can plan the payments and record each one.
Good to know
- If their quote changes later, the card says Quote changed and offers Update budget, which sets the invoice to the new amount. It can't go below what you've already paid.
- Adding the invoice also links the category to the budget line you picked, if it wasn't linked yet.
- See Not linked on a card? Choose it to open Budget Category Links.
- Your budget needs its categories first. If it has none, Add to Budget says so and offers Go to Budget.
- Change your mind about who you booked? If an earlier vendor still has an invoice in your budget, their category's card tells you, with a link to it, so it isn't counted twice.
