Connect a domain you own
In Settings, Guest links, choose A domain you own and type your domain. Then add the two records WedBuild shows you at the company you bought it from.

Bought a domain of your own, like one from GoDaddy? Your WedBuild website can show on it. WedBuild tells you exactly what to add at the company you bought it from, and your WedBuild address keeps working too, so anything you've already printed or sent still goes to the right place.
Steps
-
Open Settings, go to Guest links and, under Where your guests go, choose A domain you own (1). Choosing it only opens the next step. Nothing changes for your guests yet.
-
Under Your domain, type the domain you bought, without "https://", for example ourwedding.com (1). Then choose Connect domain (2).
-
WedBuild shows a first record under Add this at your domain provider. It proves the domain is yours. Each part has a copy button, so you never have to retype it:
- Type: TXT
- Name:
_wedbuild-verify(or_wedbuild-verify.wwwif you typed a www address) - Value: a long code that starts with
wedbuild-verify-
Add it at your domain provider (the GoDaddy steps are below). Enter the Name exactly as shown: your provider adds your domain to the end for you.
-
Once WedBuild finds that record, the note under your domain says it "is confirmed as yours", and a second record appears, which points your domain at your website. The status still says Waiting for your records while WedBuild watches for this one.
- Typed your domain on its own (ourwedding.com)? It's an A record with the Name @ and an IP address as its Value.
- Typed it with www (www.ourwedding.com)? It's a CNAME record with the Name www.
The values are made for your domain, so always copy them from your screen.
-
Watch the status next to your domain. WedBuild checks on its own, and you can close the page while it does:
- Waiting for your records: looking for the record it's showing you. Changes at your domain provider usually show up within about ten minutes, though some take a few hours.
- Setting up security: your records look right and WedBuild is getting the padlock (the security certificate). This usually takes a minute or two.
- Live: guests going to your domain see your website. Choose Open to see it yourself.
If it says Needs a fix, something needs changing, like a record that points your domain somewhere else. The note under it says what to do. Just changed a record? Choose Check again rather than waiting for the next check.
If you bought your domain from GoDaddy
These steps follow GoDaddy's own guides: Add a TXT record (opens in a new tab), Edit an A record (opens in a new tab) and Edit a CNAME record (opens in a new tab).
- Sign in to your GoDaddy Domain Portfolio.
- Select your domain to open its Domain Settings page, then select DNS to see your DNS records.
- For the first record, select Add New Record and choose TXT from the Type menu. Paste WedBuild's Name into Name and its Value into Value. Leave TTL as it is and select Save.
- For the second record, look first for one GoDaddy already has with the same Type and Name: an A record named @ (it may say Parked) or a CNAME record named www. Select Edit next to it, replace its Value with the one WedBuild shows, and select Save. If there isn't one, add it with Add New Record, as in step 3.
- If your domain has GoDaddy's Domain Protection, GoDaddy asks for a verification code before it saves.
GoDaddy says most DNS changes take effect within an hour, but can take up to 48 hours to reach everywhere.
Good to know
- Guests keep going to your WedBuild address until your domain is Live. Under Where your guests go, In use stays on Your WedBuild address and A domain you own says Not live yet. Beside Guests are sent to, Settings says "Your WedBuild address, until ourwedding.com is live" (with your domain). Once it's live, In use moves to your domain.
- It's part of Pro. On the free Pro trial you can add your domain and prove it's yours. It goes live once you're on a paid Pro plan, and WedBuild then shows you the last record to add.
- Publish your website first. Your domain shows your published website, so WedBuild asks you to publish before you connect.
- Leave your other records alone, especially anything to do with email.
- Your RSVP and other guest forms stay on your WedBuild address. Your domain shows your website, and the Settings page shows both addresses.
- See an old page after it says Live? Your browser is remembering where the domain used to point. Try a private window or another device.
- The TXT record can go once you're live. WedBuild only needs it to prove the domain is yours.
- One domain per wedding. To use a different one, choose Disconnect first.
- It's not the same as A website you built somewhere else. That option sends guests away to a site built elsewhere. If it's switched on, switch it off before you connect a domain.
