Works on your phone
Good news: your website is kept out of search results from the start. WedBuild asks Google and other search engines not to list it, so it's found by the people you send the link to.
Steps
-
Open Website and choose Site at the top, then the Privacy tab. On a phone, Site is in the ⋮ menu at the top.
-
Under Who can see it, Prevent Search Engine Indexing (1) is switched on. Leave it on to stay out of search results.
-
Would you like people to find your website by searching? Switch it off and choose Save changes. Then choose Republish, so your live website carries the change.
Good to know
- It's a request, not a lock. Anyone with your link can still open your website. To keep it to your guests only, give it a password. See Password-protect your website.
- Search engines take their own time to notice a change, whichever way you switch it.
- Before you share, under the switches, says what your choice means for your guests' details as you change it.
- The words a shared link shows are on the Overview tab, under How your link looks: its Title and Line under the link. Republish after changing them.
In the classic editor
Choose Settings at the top. Publishing Settings opens with the same switch under Who can see it: save with Save Changes, then republish. A shared link's words are Custom Title and Description, under When it's shared.
